What a palaver. She had a stint in a mental health facility to help her assess her stress levels after helping her husband and their children through his cancer. So, naturally, the press have opted to go with front page headlines like ZETA IN MENTAL HEALTH CLINIC and bolding words such as PSYCHIATRIC HOSPITAL. That's supportive.
To clarify, she's no longer in the health clinic, she spent five days there last week. This comes from her rep: "After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check into a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her bipolar II disorder. She's feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films." Thank God the rep didn't mention the film titles, otherwise my cynical bone would start itching...
For those of you not aux fait with Bipolar II, it's a "less extreme version of bipolar disorder, formerly called manic depression. It can be triggered by major stress."
The Sun has further details regarding Catherine's stint in Silver Hill Hospital in New Canaan, Connecticut, "An insider said the Oscar winner ate her meals with the other patients and played poker with them before bed. Silver Hill is an alcohol, drug and psychiatric rehab facility whose previous famous patients have included Michael Jackson, Mariah Carey and Liza Minnelli. Catherine had been dropped off at the clinic by caring Michael - who she has bravely supported in his own health battle. Another source said: 'She's been through hell. The pressure has been almost unbearable. She's had more sleepless nights than you would possibly know, worrying whether her husband would pull through'."
Fair play, she recognised that something wasn't quite right and dealt with it head on, as opposed to the "Sure I'm fine, my leg's not hanging off, sure who am I to haul myself off for a few days head rest, that's nonsense *tsks* 'Nother bottle of wine?" route.
Obviously, not everyone can afford the luxury of whipping themselves off to presumably swish rehab facilities, but taking some time out to run/swim somewhere, breathe in the sea/fresh cut grass, make a meal from scratch, or take some time to dig in the garden/window box is a good start...
Is anyone else cuddling themselves right now? Just me? OK.
